FAQs for College Representatives | Fall 2020 Virtual Probe Tour

Want to know about the Fall 2020 Virtual Probe Tour? Check out our Frequently Asked Questions for college representatives.

What is a Virtual Probe Tour?

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the Fall 2020 Probe Tour will be held virtually in two parts, or fairs: October 5 – 7; and November 2, November 4 – 5.

The October fair will run Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings, while the November fair will run Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings. On Monday, October 5 and again on November 2, we will kick-off the fair with two college panels offered from 5:00 – 5:45 p.m. EST and from 6:00 – 6:45 p.m. EST.

On the second and third evenings, we will host “6X6” sessions at 5:00 p.m, 6:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. All times are eastern standard times.

StriveScan has been retained to administer the fairs.

What is StriveScan?

StriveScan is a provider of student scanning software and a new virtual college exploration format using Zoom Webinars, a virtual conferencing solution. StriveScan will administer virtual fairs in more than 20 states this fall.

Can all colleges and universities register for Probe?

Only regionally-accredited colleges, college ROTC representatives, or military academies are permitted to participate in Probe.

What are “college panels”?

College panels are delivered via Zoom Webinars and feature a Probe-moderator and up to three college representatives. These are topically driven discussions that address key college search topics.

College panels will be held:

Monday, October 5 from 5:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. All times are eastern standard time.

Monday, November 2 from 5:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. EST.

I would like to represent my college on a panel. How can I participate?

All colleges that register for the tour will be considered for a panelist spot in one of six panels that will be offered over two virtual fairs.

The GEAC Board will choose the topics offered and the panelists from colleges that register for the Fall 2020 Virtual Probe Tour and who agree to be Probe Partners.

Prior to the event, a designated-Probe board member will reach out to the selected college panelists to discuss the topic and to coordinate the discussion.

What is a Probe Partner?

A Probe Partner is a registered college with the tour that agrees to share and pool their inquiry file. Probe then uses the data to directly contact Georgia high school students about upcoming Probe fairs. The pooled data cannot be accessed by other schools and is only used to promote the Probe tour.

Probe Partners will receive additional recognition during the promotion of the tour as well as additional inquiries from panel and session registrations.

Does my college have to be in Georgia to participate in the Probe Partner’s Program?

No. The program is open to all regionally accredited colleges and universities.

The more colleges that participate increase our ability to reach Georgia high school students to share information about their post-secondary opportunities.

What are “6X6 sessions”?

These Zoom-webinar sessions are 45 minutes in length and feature up to six colleges. Each college representative has the opportunity to speak for up to six minutes before turning over the presentation to the next college presenter.

Each presenter has the opportunity to engage with students during the session via a virtual chat, or to invite the student to connect outside of the event. Participants will be placed on mute and not allowed to display video.

A StriveScan representative will log in 15 minutes in advance of the schedule session to check in with the representatives and make sure everyone is ready. The representative will remain in the virtual event as a facilitator only, keeping everyone on track.

6X6 sessions are offered three times each night of the fair at 5:00 pm, 6:00 pm, and 7:00 p.m. EST.

Depending upon the number of colleges that register, there will be a number of concurrent sessions during each hour.
